I looooove finding ideas online that trump idea

I knew that I wanted to use real lollypops for makenzie's party invitations. This was turning our to be expensive and hard to find the perfect lolly pop.

What do you do if you can't find the perfect lolly pop....make it!

These are sugar cookies decorated to look like lolly pops!

It's a done deal, this is the invite!

The cookie will be wrapped in a clear bag and tied with a business card that has the party details.

If you live out of town, your invite will be different because I'm not fedex-ing you a cookie :0)

Bathtime fun!

Tonight Makenzie's bath water is purple!

She doesn't seem to care all that much but I was thinking that colored bath water might me a good reward when she is two and we are learning manners and how to be a good little princess.

Party Time

Look close and you will see a disco ball in the picture. I love that our church has a disco ball but sadly they did not use it today while celebrating Jesus raising from the dead. But I could have totally planned a great musical experience, complete with disco ball usage :0)

Trying something new

Alex and I are going to try a new feeding plan with Makenzie. Let me know what you think.

At the current time Makenzie gets a bottle whenever she wants and drinks however much of it she wants. She eats baby food around dinner, then we play for a while, then she get a little more baby food that is thickened up with baby cereal, and then a bottle to go to bed.

This was working okay for us. Alex and I don't lead too busy of lives outside of parenthood and it's pretty easy to stop and feed Makenzie on demand. Makenzie did find a loose pattern to bottle time but nothing strong or too regular (except the night time bottle).

Our new plan is really trying to get Makenzie to eat more formula 4 times a day and babyfood 3 times a day. Instead of letting Makenzie stop drinking at the first sign of contentness, we are going to really push for a big 7oz or 8oz bottle. This should eliminate as many feedings throughout the day.

Another this is during the day, Alex and I are both guilty of just feeding her a small 4oz bottle whenever Makenzie is fussy, for instant soothing. We are also both VERY guilty of this at night. It is way easier to give Makenzie a 2oz warm bottle and coax her back to sleep, than rock her back to sleep or rub her back in the crib for 40 minutes. We are going to try to cut out extra soothing feeds and try to get her to drink one 7oz bottle at night.

We are also trying to get Makenzie in the habbit of food beyond formula. And before you get all worked up, I am in no way suggesting supplimenting needed daily calories from formula, with baby food. We realize how fast the first 6 months went by and we know the next 6 will go by even faster, and at 1 year the suggest babyfood intake drops to zero and they are reccomend to eat 3 meals a day like grown ups. The increase in babyfood will be a pain in the booty because it's just a lot more work but....

Who said parenthood would be easy? NOBODY!

PS: it was kindly brought to my attention that the spelling and grammar on my blog was horrible. I'd like to ask for some understanding though, I blog from my phone! No spell check and the screen is too small to proof read :0)

Can I do it?

I want to make thi shape of cake for Makenzies birthday (yes I know she is only 6 months old but I am bored at work). We won't need that much cake so I want to make the top two layers styrofoam and the bottom big layer be cake.

I am not sure in this creative or talented but we will see. I might practice on the next holiday. Anyone ever attempt this type of cake at home ? I'm not wanting to use the fondont either. Not sure if that is possible.

Maybe i should go to just go to a bakery!

Grrrrrrrrr! Damn Aggies!

Thi morning Makenzie and I went on a 1 hour walk around the neighborhood. We love to walk outside.

What we don't love is when we have to get off the sidewalk and into the street because people block the sidewalks.

This house did it too! Both homes had Texas AM paraphernalia.

But in the end we still love our walks!

New Recipe Monday

Mighty cones is a trailer on South Congress with the best chicken tortilla wrap EVER! This is the recipe we made last weekend and it is pretty dang close. A-MAZING!

mighty+cone+stand.jpg

Mango Slaw

  • 1/2 cup(s) diced mango
  • 2 large jalapeños, seeded and chopped
  • 2 tablespoon(s) white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon(s) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon(s) water
  • 1 small shallot, minced
  • 1 cup(s) mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup(s) chopped cilantro
  • 2 clove(s) garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon(s) fresh lime juice
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 7 cup(s) shredded coleslaw mix

Chicken Cones

  • 3 cup(s) cornflakes
  • 6 tablespoon(s) slivered almonds
  • 6 tablespoon(s) sesame seeds
  • 6 tablespoon(s) sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon(s) crushed red pepper
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon(s) kosher salt
  • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup(s) milk
  • All-purpose flour, for dredging
  • 6 (5-ounce) skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, sliced lengthwise 1-inch thick
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 6 10-inch flour tortillas, warmed

Directions

  1. Make the mango slaw: In a saucepan, combine the mango, jalapeños, vinegar, sugar, water, and shallot. Cover and simmer until the mango is softened, 10 minutes.
  2. Transfer the mango mixture to a food processor and puree; scrape into a large bowl. Stir in the mayonnaise, cilantro, garlic, and lime juice and season with salt and pepper. Add the coleslaw mix and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate.
  3. Make the cones: Wipe out the food processor. Add the cornflakes, almonds, sesame seeds, sugar, red pepper, and salt and pulse until coarsely chopped. Transfer the mixture to a large, shallow bowl. In a second shallow bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk. Fill a third shallow bowl with flour. Dredge the chicken strips in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip them in the eggs, then roll them in the cornflake mixture.
  4. Set a rack over a rimmed baking sheet. In a large skillet, heat 1/4 inch of oil. Working in batches, fry the chicken over moderately high heat, turning once, until golden brown, 6 minutes; transfer to the rack. Set the fried chicken on the tortillas and top with the mango slaw. Roll up and eat right away.

GOOD LUCK! Let me know if you try it and if so, how you liked it!

Tonight I made a link!

Yes, for thoes of you who took any class with Mitzi Ziegner, that is the "link" I am talking about! Except my link tonight was at church and it was kind of a chain of links. I went to a disciple now service tonight and sat with Matt, Lori, Kayler & Chloe.

Here is the begining of my link-
When I was in the 8th grade I went to a disciple now at there house. It was then that they began investing in my life. I went through high school spending time with and becoming a part of their family.

I moved to Lubbock to go to Texas Tech. I went "pot luck" for a roommate and got Haley! (and with Haley came her sister Holly!) The 3 of us started going to and devoted every Thursday night to a college bible study called Paradigm. This biblestudy and worship was lead by a band called Pearl Merchant and pastor John Randalls. I remember this being the time that I really developed a PERSONAL relationship with the Lord. I realized that if I let go of worrying what my roomates or the guys behind me thought my experience at church would be deeper and more intimate with God.

I went to the same churches disciple now Saturday night service last year. I remember that I had just found out I was pregnant and I sat on the gym floor praying this prayer. "God, obviously I have not lived a life that was glorifing to you. Obviously I have not lived the best life I know how, which is a life walking side by side with you. Lord the life inside me is real, it's permanent, it's perfect, it's your creation." I remember this prayer like I said it yesterday. "Jesus, I can't do this alone. Let's do this together. I need you." then I prayed for the next nine months and for Makenzie. I prayed that the Lord would love on her and be her Savior from a young age.

Tonight I stood in the same gym I was in a year ago, with a band that I love to worship with, with songs that remind me of great times in college, with people I love and I thanked God for his perfect plan and his guidance through out my life that has brought me to a perfectly wonderful place.

Happy baby, happy fieance, happy family!

Tonight makenzie ate at 6 when I got home & was asleep by 7. It's a bummer when I only get an hour with her all day. Pray for all of us during the time of transition.
